First Idea Brainstorm

I'm currently brainstorming ideas for my short film.

So far, I've decided that my film will circulate around a male and a female.

The short will take place over their entire lives.

The film will be separated into about three or four sections of their lives:

  • Children
  • Teens
  • Adults
  • Elderly
Here is my first idea. It is very rough, and I will probably change most of the points over and over, however, this is my beginning.

A boy and girl at a young age are interested in dance. They spend their childhoods at a dance school, before being paired together. Both feel hatred towards one another, however they are forced to persevere and so become dance partners.
Boy isn't entirely interested in dance, however is forced into the art by his parents/grandparents/carers.

Teenage Years -
The two are much more sophisticated in dance and now compete in competitions.
After the dance scene, the two are slightly more friendly. The female is a casual flirt, joking with male. The male tries to hide his blush from her, clearly suggesting that he's developed some kind of romantic interest in her.

Adult Years -
The two are still competing in dance competitions. They win the competition.
Walking along the beach or some romantic setting (which will appear to be near the competition hall, as though they're walking home).
Female is holding the trophy in one hand, with the other hand by her side, suggesting for male to grab it. Male's hand is in pocket, trying to seem oblivious.
Conversation begins on the two reminiscing over the competition. They are both laughing together.
Due to perhaps an action or change of topic in conversation,  they begin to discuss themselves as people rather than in dance.
The female gets frustrated or upset that he's never made a move on her before and that she's been waiting and one of the two initiates the kiss.

Elderly Years -
Scene begins with a panning shots of photographs on a wall. Photos include wedding photos, photos of grandchildren, dance competition photos.
Shot goes to the two. Theres dated music playing, and the two are slow dancing to it. When we see their faces, they look saddened. The man pulls his wife in closer and she looks up to him and says "_____ (name), you know, you'll have to wake up sooner or later." and with that, he wakes up.
It's the same room as before, except it's daylight, and we see just the male's side of the bed.
He reluctantly stands up, and heads to the other side of the bed.
Close up of his face "Good morning, darling." he says to his wife out of shot.
We don't see her face, but we see a hand slowly lift up, with tubes coming out, and we begin to hear a beeping of machines and medical noises.

This is my very first draft of work and it will be redrafted and peer assessed frequently. I will then storyboard, write the script and cast my parts.
